ADMINISTRATION
The Department of Business Administration was established
in 1984 with the objective to impart managerial eaducation. In short period
of its existence, the department has made termendous progress toward achieving
its ultimate goal of becomg a centre of excellence in business management eduacation
and research in Pakistan. The Department has assembled outstanding teaching
in Pakistan. Presently, the department is offering MBA,MBA-IT , MBA Banking
& Finance, Commonwealth of executive MBA/MPA and BBA programmes. These programmes
contribute significantly to the national goal of development of business executives
equipped with proficiency in Pakistan. The University introduced MBA programmes
in 1986,MBA-IT in 2001 and MBA Banking & Finace in spring 2005 Semester.These
are well taken by a large number of people waiting for an opportunity to upgrade
their skills and enhance professional qualifications without losing their jobs
and leaving work places. Thousand of applications are received and these programmes
are gaining popularity day by day.
Graduates from this university are recognized in the
human resource market and enjoying respectable status in public and private
sector organizatio, operating in pakistan and abroad.
Aim and Objectives
The Business Administration Programmes of AUOI are designed
to achieve the following objectives:
1. The prepare ture professionals for public and private sector organizations
and and to train them to the need of complex and changing business environment.
2. To inculcate future orientation in managers. This will encourage continuous
learning and habitual receptiveness to new ways of identifying and dealing with
opportunities and problem, in the business world.
MASTER'S IN BUSINESS
ADMINISTRATION INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
(MBA-IT) PROGRAMME
The application of Computer in all walks of life in
general and in the business sector in pacticular, had been recognized by the
AIOU through lanching of MBA-IT programme in Spring 2001 for the frist time.
This programme would cater to the needs of modern business enviroment that required
the business graduates to be fully equipped with updated knowledge and techniques
in information technology. The content of the programme is recognized as one
of the best professional programmes and a large number of student are keen to
be enrolled in this programme every year. The objective of the programme is
to equip the student with the latest knoledge of computer and its application
in decision-making and to identify and solve business related and problems.
Teaching Mode
All courses of MBA-IT programme
would be taught under face-to-face system through approved study centers.
Duration
The MBA-IT programme consist
of seventy-two(72)credit hours. The student are required to study 23 courses
in this programme. The whole programme is spread over five semesters and the
minimum period required for its completion is two and half years.

INSTRUCTIONAL SYSTEM
Each course in the MBA, MBA-IT and MBA Banking & Finance programmes may
include a combination of the following learning activities:
1. All course of MBA Programme would be taught under the tutorial system system
of Open Distance Learning mode (ODL)
2. All courses of MBA-IT and MBA- Banking and Finance would be taught under
face-to-face system through approved study centres(ASCs).
3. Seventy percent attendance of students in the class is compulsory for MBA-IT
and MBA-Banking and Finance.
4. Medium of instructions for these programmes would be English
4. Self-explanatory standard printed textbooks would be mailed to the students.
5. Assignments for continuous assessment and feedback.
6. Midterm tests for following course of MBA-IT programme will be held at approved

ADMISSION PROCESS
Entry
Requirements
The admission in all busness administration programmes would be granted to
the candidtes who have obtained at least 2nd class in
graduation from any recognized University. All candidates who meet the criteria
will be admitted in these programmes provided their prescribed admission application
are complete in all respect as per requirments of the University and they have
deposited the requisite fee of the programme as per liad down procedures. Before
applying for admission , the students should note that according to the university
policy, they can be enrolled only in one educational programme in a semester.
Thus, they should carefully decide their option of enrolment in any educational
progrmme of the University.
Applying for Admission
The candidates who intend to apply for admission are
advised to pursue the following procedure:
1. Choose the courses of first semester which are gives
in the section 4 of this prostectus.You will find five courses to be first semester.
Out of 5 courses to be taught, you will have option to either choose all five
courses or go for lesser number of any reason. it may however, be pointed out
that enrolment in lesser courses would prolong the duration of your programme.
2. before you complete the application form, please read
the entire prospectus. Thereafter, completely fill in the application from available
with this prospectus. In case any entry of the from is not understood please
refer to the relevant of this prospectus for further guidance. Attach attested
copies of the requisite documents.
3. The applicat must sign the from after filling it.
An unsigned from or signed on your behalf cannot be accept its fees from the
student on payment of nominal service charges. Almost all main branches of these
banks accept the fees along with admission forms. The list of designated branches
of these banks is enclosed at the end of this prospectus for your reference.
With this arrangement, now you have the following two options for depositing
your fee:
Depositing Fee at Designated Bank Branches
Through Challan Forms
Firstly reviw the attached list of designated branches
of National Bank of Pakistan and First Women Bank Ltd. and locate the branch
which is nearer to you consider it convenient for depositiong the fee. Check
the amount of the fee required to be deposited. This amount is given at section
5 of the prospectus. Please do not forget registration fee, viva voce fee and
admission fee along with semester fee. The Challan from is attached with the
admission from. Fill the challan from and be sure to correctly mention your
name, adderss, the programme's title and the amount to be deposited. Visit the
branch,present the challan from, admission from with requisite doucments, at
counter and get the receipt.you will receive one receipt of challan from No
4 (markied as " The University copy") which wil be attached in original
with the admission from and remaining one (marked as "The Student's copy")
which will be retained by you record as proof of payment. By using this option
the chances of misplacement of from uin the post will be eliminated. The student
would pay following service chardes to the bank other than the AIOU Branch in
addition to the required fee:
a. National Bank of Pakiistan AIOU Branch Rs. 20/- and
other Branches Rs. 35/- per admission form/ challan from.
b. Frist Women Bank Limited Rs. 25/- per admision form/ challan from(other than
AIOU Branch).
Depositing Fee Through Demand Draft
If no designated branch is available in your city/town/village,
you may nearest bank get a demand draft made in favour of Treasure, Allama Iqbal
Open University mentioning the amount of fee required to be deposited for admission
in the academic programme. After paying the paying the amount in cash or through
cheque, the bank will issue a demand draft on payment of service charge. Detach
the counterfoil of the demand draft and keep it as a proof of payment of fee.
In addition to this as a matter of precaution also please make photocopy of
the demand draft for your record.
Sending Admission Forms
(i) If you are depositing the fee by bank challan, the
bank it self will send the form to the University, send duly if you have obtained
bank draft in favour of Treasurer, Allama Iqbal Open University, send duly completed
admiision form along with all required documents and this demand draft in original
to the Post Graduate Admission Section Block No 4, Allama Iqbal Open University,
Sector H-8, Islamabad.
(ii) In order to save this demand draft form misuse,
please write your name, identity card number and the programme applied for on
the back of original demand draft.
(iii) Before sending your applicatin please make sure
that you have signed and dated the form and completed all the sections correctly.
(iv) The Universiyt reserves the right to cancel any
registration made on the basis of information that proves to be untrue or misleading.
(v) Please ensure that the admission forms along with
prescribed document should reach to the admission office before due date as
mestioned in the advertiement.
(vi) The candidates may also note that in complete admission
form and/or the admission forms without prescribed fee and / or without the
required document will not be entertained.
(vii) Furthmore, the applications received after due
mentioned in the the advertisement will not be entertained. In such cases the
received will be refunded to the student without any daduction.
Post Admission Process
Confirmation of Admission
The admision form will be examined at the admission office
Allama Iqbal Open University upon its receipt. Admission office will process
your application form and allot you roll number and registretion number. After
about three months you will be sent study material. In case you do not receive
any intimation after 90 days of sending of your admission form you are advised
to contact Post Graduated Admission section Block 3, AIOU, Islamabad or the
nearest Regional office of the Allama Iqbal Uniersity.
The study period for Autumn semester for the admission
advertised first time in August every year start form 1st December of the same
year and continues till May next year. similarly the study period for the admissions
announced for spring semester on 1st February year starts form 1st june of the
year and continues till November of the same year. The mailing for Autumn semester
in completed by the end of November and for spring semester by the end of May,
each year.
Mailing of the Material
After your admission, the course material, two assignment,
and other details are mailed to you. Normally for admission in autumn semester
should reach you by 15th November and 15th
May May for the spring Semester. In case this material is not received by this
date you are advised to Mailing Officer, Services Block, Allama Iqbal Open University.
Allocation of Study Centre
When you will recive material mailed by the university,
your Regional office will appiont tutors for all the courses of MBA programme.
These tutors will intimate all the students about their particular and the venue
for tutorial meetings.
For MBA Banking & Finance and MBA-IT programmes,
the mangement of approved study centre would inform you the timetable for attending
classes. You will also have to submit your assignment to your teachers on the
due date as mentioned in the schedule.
Enrolment for the next semester
During the semester you will receive a letter from admission office of the University
for enrolment in the next semester. The letter would notify you about the courses
to the offered in the next semester and amount of fee required to be deposited.
Sometimes the student feel surprised over this information because according
to the m they are still in the middle of current semester and they are yet to
qualify the courses of the semester. Thus they cannot understand the very reason
for enrolment in the next semester. The reason is that the University has to
arrange your studies for the next semester in time. If it wait for declaration
of result of one semester before starting the next semester, commencement of
next semester would be delayed by three to four mounths. Adding this delay up
to four semester the University will not be in a position to complete your programme
in the minimum prescribed limit of two year and it may be extended up to four
years. This is why the University asks for admission in the next semester before
conclusion of earlier semester.
Withdrawing from a course
After getting admission and paying requisite fee to the University,
if a student change mind and decides to withdraw, in such case no refund of
fee will be made to the student.
DEGREE REQUIRMENTS
Assignments
Two assignments for each course would be given which are required
to be submitted before the due date as informed by the University. The assignment
are important element of the continuous assessment will be counted in his final
result of the course. In MBA prograame you will have to obtain at least 40%
qualifying mark from two assignment collectively. Generally in the frist assignment,
your level of understanding for first half of the syllabus is assessed while
the second assignment relates to the remaining part of the course.
Purpose of Assignments
The main purpose of assignment is to test your comprehension
of the syllabus of the course and also to help them to get through the courses.
The information provided in the book supplied by the University is sufficient
for answering the questions of the assignment. The assignment are designed in
such a way as to help the students to concentrate mainly on the printed course
material and exploit thier personal experience. The students are therefore advised
to take the assignments seriously. A simple omission on their part may cause
considerable loss to them, Which can avoided by exercising proper care. The
students may note that they will not be allowed to appear in the final examinations
for nay course. If they do not submit both the assignment both the assignments
within due date as mentioned in the class schedule and they obtain at least
40% mark collectively out of the assignment.
Submission of Assignments
The students should submit complete answers to all assignments'
questions in their own word and before submission of the assignment they should
ensure that they have answered all question of the assignments. Normally after
evaluation, the teacher return the marked assignment to the students with comments
and grading. The students are adivsed to submit the assignment well before due
date. The students are also advised to retain a copy of all assignments' answer.
In case they do not get back their duly evaluated marked assignments with assessment
sheets within a month after submission, they are advised to get the assignments
personally from the teacher or from their study centre. Retaining the copy of
the assignments' answers will help the students to represent their case to the
University. The students should also know that in case they do not get minimum
qualifying mark in the continous assessment component consisting of two assignment
of the course, they will be declared fail in the entire course and they will
have to get re-admission in that particular course after paying the requisite
fee.
Re-evaluation of assignments
The assignment are not subject to re-evaluation except for error
in counting the total marks. If the students notice any discrepancy in the evaluated
assignment, they are adivsed to immediately bring it to the notice of their
teacher or the Incharge if their study centre so that the correct mark are forwarded
to the University.
Cheating on assignments
Word by word copy from books or any other source is not permissible
in answering the assignments. The students are required to answer the questions
in their own words. You must not send in other people's work, either in its
entriety or in part, and claim it as your own.
In the same way, students are encouraged to show the result of their readings
by referring to and quoting from works on the subject. How ever, copying from
such sources without acknowledgment is plagiarism and is not acceptable. To
copy deliberately from a printed work or from any other source and to claim
it as your own is a from of cheating. Cheating, or attempting
to cheat, is a serious offence and will be punished in accordance with the relevant
Rules if the AIOU.
Workshops
At the end of each semester, workshops for each course of MBA
programme would be held at major regional campuses of AIOU. The duration of
workshops for each course would be three days. In case of low enrolment in a
particular region, the students would be reuired to participate in the woekshops
in other region as directed by the university. Travelling, boarding and lodging
charges are the responsibilities of the students. Workshops inculde the following
activities:
1. Lectures of the resource person
2. Command tasks
3. Simulation and role-playing activities
4. Presentation of the students
Mid Term Test
The weightage of mid term in the test in
the aggregate result of a course is 20 percent. Before the final Examinations,
mid term test for the following courses of MBA-IT programme would be held at
the approved study centres:

Written Examinations
Need for examinations
Final Exminations is another compponent of overall assessment
system of a course. Exams help you to review your studies and see the course
as a whole. Exams are taken at the end end of the course on the set dates, usally
at a convenient centre. If necessary, special arrangement can be made in specail
circumstances, only for students with disabilities.
Weightage of Examination in the Final Results
The duration of hte Examination for each course will be three
hours. As a lready stated final Examinations carry 70 percent weightage in the
determination of final results. In order to be eligible to appear in the final
Examination in any course, the students are required to obtain to least minimum
40% qualifying mark in the assignments. The Examinations of each semester of
each course are cvonducted at the end of the semester. The minimum pasing marks
in the final Examinations are 40%. In case a student fails to get minimum qualifying
(40%) marks in the final examinations, he will be eligible to re-appear in the
Examination of the same courseduring the next semester. In case he again fails
to get minmum qualifying marks in the 2nd attempt, he will be given one more
final chance to qualify the Examination in the next semester. If he does not
obtain minimum passing marks in his 3rd attempt in the final Examinations, he
will be considered fail in the overall evaluation of the course, no matter he
has secured passing mark in the assignments. In these circumstance, he will
have to re-enrol in that particular course after paying the requisite fee of
a course.
Roll Number slips
The University will send roll number slip to each
student to appear in the final examination at least 15 days before the Exminations.
This roll number slip besides mentioning your roll number and registration number,will
give address of your Examination centre. If a student does not receive this
intimation slip 15 days before the commencement of examinations, he may contact

Tel No 9250111-*60 Ext.:4319. If your name is registered for examinations, but
you have not received intimation slip or misplaced the intimation slip you can
take examination after obtaining duplicate roll no slip from the concerned Regional
Directors.The regional Directors would download the duplicate roll number slip
and give you the print out on behalf of the Controller of the Examination centres
to prove their identity.
Changes in Examination Centres
The University will not entertain the requests for change of
examination centre during the semester exceptional circumstances
when the student has genuine reasons for change and must apply at least 45 days
before the commencement of Examinationn.
Eligibility For Appearing in Examinations
It is the responsibility of the students to check their registration
in a particular course and the eligibility to appear in Examination. if the
student neglect this and take the examinations without being eligible, the results
will be cancelled.
Declaration of Results of Examinations
Normally the result of the Examinations containing aggregate
mark of the students as per 30:70 weightage are declared within three months
of completion of Examination before the commencement of next semester. The study
period of next semester starts without waiting for the result of previous semester.
Internship
After completion of 15 compulsory course for MBA/MBA Banking
& Finance and 20 courses for MBA-IT the students are required to undertake
training in an organization selected by them, for a period of 6-8 weeks. The
intership enable the students to undertake, how the theoretical knowledge can
be applied to the practical situations.
For the purpose of intership the students are required to select an organization
and get it approved by the Department of Business Administration through mail
or e-mail. If required, the University may provide them an introductory letter
addressed to the organization. After completion of the intership, the students
have to submit a draft copy of intership report to the Departmant. In case the
report is not up to the prescribed standard the students are asked to improve
it as per comments of the faclty member and resubmit.Only those students are
allowed to appear in viva Voce who submit pass result card of all required coures
and approved copy of the report.
Viva Voce
i. The students are eligible to appear in the Viva Voce after
positive evaluation of his/her intership report and successful completion of
20 courses of MBA or 23 courses of MBA-IT programme. The department in consultation
with the Controller of Examination arranges Viva Voce at the AIOU main campus
Islamabad.
ii. The Viva Voce cover the entire course work.
iii. Qualifying the Viva Voce is a necessary condition for grant of MBA/MBA(Banking
& Finance) and (MBA IT). degree.
iv. Maximum of three chances are given to a student to pass Viva Voce. If a
student fails in third chance, then only a transcript of courses passed would
be issued instead of degree.
